Teaching kitchen fundamentals and timeless brasserie dishes

Matthew Ryle is a professional chef and influencer who loves to share his passion for food with the world. He is the head chef of Maison François, a French brasserie situated on southern Mayfair right next to the Ritz hotel in London. Somehow he also finds time to run a very popular Instagram account and create high-quality content.

Matthew’s interest in cooking started when he was a teenager. He grew up in Reading, where his parents ran a pub-restaurant. There he learned the trade by watching the high-pace cooking in the restaurant kitchen. He also found inspiration during cookery classes and from cookery shows on TV. What really sealed the deal was when his mother took him to a Michelin starred restaurant when he was 14. He managed to get a weekend job there and surrounded himself with great food. After this he went on to catering college at Bournemouth and Poole, Where he trained under a specialised chef’s scholarship, then afterwards broadened his training at The Dorchester in London.

The public career of Matthew Ryle took off in 2018, when he appeared on the BBC’s MasterChef: The Professionals. He impressed the judges and the viewers with his talent and personality, and made it all the way to the semi-finals. During the series he gaines a lot of fans and recognition, while he at the same time got the opportunity to work with some of the best chefs in the country.

In parallel to Matthew’s professional career his social media platforms have constantly been growing. His segment “Cooking classics” is immensely appreciated by his followers. There he picks a theme and cooks a number of dishes on that theme. Some examples are “French classics”, where he gives us a palette of classic bistro dishes, from Lobster Thermidor to Croque Monsieur to Œuf en gelée (personally, we feel Œuf en gelée should be brought back after watching the video).
